Collection: Katsushika Hokusai

Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) was a Japanese ukiyo-e painter and printmaker, best known for his iconic woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa from the series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (1830–1833). Active during the Edo period, Hokusai's work blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with a keen sense of composition and a fascination with nature, landscapes, and everyday life. His art, characterized by bold lines, intricate details, and a dynamic use of color, played a significant role in shaping the genre of ukiyo-e and later influenced Western artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. Hokusai's prolific career, spanning over 70 years, left an indelible mark on both Japanese and global art history.
